St. Angelo's Fort (Kannur Fort)
huge triangular laterite fort with a moat and flanking bastions, St. Angelo's Fort, also called Kannur Fort, was built by Don Francesco de Almeida, the first Portuguese Viceroy, in 1505.
In 1663, the Dutch seized the fort and sold it to Ali Raja of Kannur. In 1790 the British who took control,renovated and made it their key military station in Malabar.
It is a protected monument now under the Archaeological Survey of India. The fort provides a panoramic view of the Moppila Bay and Dharmadom Island, The latter, 5 acres in area, is 100 metres away from the mainland. The Moppila Bay is a natural fishing bay and a wall projecting from the fort separates the rough sea and inland water. the bay has been turned into a modern fishing harbour under the Indo-Norwegian Pact. It is 3 km from Kannur town.

Peerumedu-Idukki district-Kerala
Location : About 40 km from Kumily, Idukki district, central Kerala.
Attractions : 915 m above sea level. Peeremede is a lovely hill station, an ideal retreat in the Western Ghats and a choice break for tourists en route to the Periyar Tiger Reserve. Sprawling gardens of tea, coffee, cardamom, rubber and eucalyptus lying side by side with natural grasslands, pine forests and waterfalls make this an ideal summer resort. The summer palace of Rajas of erstwhile Travancore is today an important monument here. Peeremede and its surroundings are suitable for trekking, cycling and horse riding. Kuttikanam a place for adventure tourism and trekking is just 3 km from Peeremede. Another attraction here is Thrissanku Hills four km away. The rolling hills, the lovely landscape and the gentle breeze make this a choice spot for long walks. The hills offer a breathtaking view of the sunrise and sunset.
Thirparappu Falls- Tamil Nadu
Thirparappu falls is a natural beauty spot attracts many tourists. It is located at a distance of 5 kms. from kulasekaram. There is a lord shiva temple. The lord after destroying the yagam of dhaxan as virabhadra murthi has taken abode over here. This lord, who is very sweet for the sincere worshippers, is in a fierce form. This temple is one in the shivalaya ottam temples. There are many old inscriptions in this temple including the one of the pandiya king dated nineth century.
This temple is situated in a very scenic background as the kodhaiyaru rivers makes a fall near the temple. This is a west facing abode. The sanctum is round shaped at the bottom and cone shaped toward the top. There is an abode for jvaradevar in the temple. Beautiful big temple. Beautiful Big Temple
Aruvikkara dam- Trivandrum- Kerala
Situated 16km from Thiruvananthapuram city, Aruvikkara Dam site used to be a preferred tourism location. Now you can describe the condition of this place in a single word – pathetic.
There was a good park, which now is home to some snakes and big groves –may be preserving nature
Major portion of water supply to Thiruvananthapuram City is catered from here. The location has some greenery left, the blue spread of reservoir and the artificial waterfall is also a nice thing to see. On the banks of this Aruvi (stream by meaning) is a Devi temple. Devi Aruvikkara. The fish in the river is believed to be owned by the deity of the temple. A usual ritual here is feeding the fish with rice, flower and peanuts – this could heal warts in skin.

There is a KTDC restaurant – one has to do some ‘research’ to find the place. The only solace to people visiting the place is regular KSRTC bus services connecting the city – you feel it less adventurous to run over the slippery, sharp rocks inside the river.
Agasthyarkoodam - Trivandrum- Kerala
Location : 70 km from Thiruvananthapuram.
Attractions : Rare herbs and medicinal plants.
The Agasthya forest is believed to have been the abode of sage Agasthya, a character from mythology. Trekking trails and thick forests around here.
Agasthyarkoodam, the spectacular peak in the Western Ghats rises to a majestic 1890 m in the form of a sharp cone. A haven for rare herbs and medicinal plants, its slopes are a breathtaking sight when they transform into colourful glades of the 'Neelakurinji', a flower which blooms only once in twelve years.
Women are not allowed up the peak. The aboriginals here believe that sage Agasthya, a mythological character who lived here was a confirmed bachelor, hence they dislike the presence of strange women. The season from December 2'nd week to February is advocated for trekking for which a forest pass has to be obtained from the Wildlife Warden, Forest Dept., P.T.P.Nagar, Thiruvananthapuram.

peppara wildlife sanctuary- Trivandrum- Kerala
About 50 km from Thiruvananthapuram city en route to Ponmudi, Thiruvananthapuram district, South Kerala.
Lying on the outskirts of the capital city, the Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over an area of 53 sq. km. on the Western Ghats and was established in 1938. The place is fascinating for its damsite, thick forest areas, eucalyptus plantations, crystal clear streams and rocky terrains ideal for adventure expeditions.
The sanctuary has a rich population of mammalian fauna and is emerging as a big attraction to wildlife enthusiasts and ornithologists. Elephants, sambar, leopard, liontailed macaque and cormorant are commonly seen here. Recently, a joint effort has been made by Kerala Tourism with the State Forest Department and the Kerala Water Authority to beautify the damsite and provide more entertainment/leisure facilities here.

Eravikulam National Park -Kerala

Visiting hours: 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.
A sanctuary for the endangered mountain goat of South India, the Nilgiri Tahr ( Hemitragus hylocrious), the Eravikulam National Park stands out for the stark beauty of its rolling grasslands and sholas, spread over 97 sq km in the Rajamalai hills.
Anamudi, the highest peak (2695 m) south of the Himalayas, towers over the sanctuary in majestic pride. The slopes of the hills abound in all kinds of rare flora and fauna. The Atlas moth, the largest of its kind in the world, is a unique inhabitant of the park. Other rare species of fauna found here are the Nilgiri Langur, the liontailed macaque, leopards, tigers, etc. An ideal place for trekking, facilities are provided here and tourists are allowed to go on foot up to Anamudi.
A protected area, the sanctuary is divided into three regions the core area, the buffer area and the tourism area. Visitors are allowed only to the tourism area Rajamalai the region lying beyond the road entry into Eravikulam. Here one can observe the Nilgiri Tahr at close quarters. Don't make this your destination for a monsoon visit because visitors are not allowed here during this season.
